I know you’re Korean Annie, and this is a long-awaited opportunity to pose a question that’s been bothering me. Anecdote: A few years ago there was a new guy at work (architecture). He seemed cool, I wanted to make a good impression. I Failed. I asked him *if* he was Chinese. He rasps, “Are you blind?! I am Korean!” There are also many Indians and Pakistanis at work. Being an ignorant (American) white guy, and being painfully aware that “Oriental” (which means “East”) is Not PC, is there a term I can use for East Asian Mongoloid-heritage people that will describe, without offense, those folks as a group? I want to learn to distinguish by sight all the nationalities of the region, but until (if) that comes to pass, is there a right way to denote them? “Asian” is as non-descriptive as “African” (a whole ‘nother, but similar, can’o'worms), and Mongoloid refers to natives from Mongolia all the way to the southmost tip of the Americas.
P.S. Why the “Fact.”? U got me, not in an amusing way.
