I am about to blow your mind with trivia.

Q: Who was the rapper featured in Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract”?

A: People will say, EASY PEASY IT WAS MC SKAT KAT! And I would say, OMG you are a total dork, holy crap, but guess what? You are SO wrong. It’s the Wild Pair!!!

Q: Who directed that video? (This one will BLOW YOUR MIND.)

A: David Fincher.

(Fight Club,Seven, Panic Room, The Game, etc.)

He also directed “Vogue,” “Express Yourself,” and “Janie’s Got a Gun,” among others.

This is the second time “Janie’s Got a Gun” has come up. Yesterday I was eating at Once Upon a Tart with JoMo and they were blaring Aerosmith like it was 1991. He asked me “Do you think Aerosmith knows all their songs sound the same?” The answer was obviously no, which is why they sound the same. Like I can just see their creative process: ok how about I start with this this soft guitar riff…how about in 4/4. Something easy…like maybe I play these two notes back and forth over and over again. OK! Great idea, Joe! Then I’ll come in a little louder! OK! Rock on, Joe! And then Steven, you scream and yowl like this yoooowwwwllllleeeeeeeee. OMG that is the best song we’ve ever come up with! High fives all around!

But seriously, Aerosmith, wtf. They’ve been around forever too that is the sad part. For the last twenty years they have literally been singing and selling the same EXACT SONG. They are loaded from ONE SONG. And all the videos where Alicia Silverstone traipses around wearing one or more of the following:

-bikini
-mini skirt
-Catholic school uniform

Man, I wish I were Aerosmith. It’d be so awesome.

  1. Aura:

More importantly, do you know who sang “Parents Just Don’t Understand” with Will Smith?

Do you know who sang “Joy and Pain” with Rob Base? And did you know that they ACTUALLY played that song at Tao in Vegas on Friday night? And I apparently know every single word? Sad. Very, very sad. I’m almost tempted to take it off my iPod.

also, there’s the one Aerosmith song where liv tyler joins alicia in the video and alicia dresses up like a man and then strips. did fincher do that one?

  2. Ms. Bizarro:

What’s even more stunning is that there is a dedicated Aerosmith look-alike tribute band still wandering in and around Boston, and people still go see their shows. What the hell? Following a cover band is bad enough, but to follow a tribute band, like you don’t think you’re good enough for the real thing so their rip-offs are good enough? That’s just pathetic.

Aura: Fincher didn’t do that one. He did the one about the father who sexually abuses his daughter. NO kidding. Liv was not in that video.

Ms. Biz: Yeah taht is the absolute WORST. LIke a cover band of the worst band ever, you see it all the time. You shouldn’t even do a cover band of a good band. NO COVER BANDS. EVER.

Pony: You love Batgirl almost as much as you love Aerosmith. YOu should request that for 80s night. Or do they not have Aerosmith in Hawaii?

  5. Alex:

The trouble with Aerosmith is the same trouble that afflicts every band that sticks around past their sell-by date. From 1974 to 1979 or so, they were about the best American rock band ever. Problem was, they peaked with Rocks in 1976, and they’ve been on the creative decline for so long since then that nobody even remembers how good they used to be anymore.
