More books! 7,500 more to be exact

I just found out that HAPPY BIRTHDAY OR WHATEVER is going into another printing of 7,500 copies! Apparently Barnes and Noble put in a “big order” so that is A+. I am hoping to make corrections in this print run so if you guys have found any mistakes please email them and their page numbers to me at annie at annietown dot com. I will be most grateful. I will make you something. A toilet paper cozy. A paperweight out of a rock. Origami. Whatever you want, I’ll make it. As long as it’s a toilet paper cozy, a paperweight out of a rock, or origami. This book was one of the first to be electronically copyedited at Harper (no paper was harmed in the making of this book other than the destruction of trees to make the paper to print the book) so there are a few bumps in the text. But sweet, right? 7,500! I’m trying to wrap my head around that. Luckily, the Internet provided me with this example. Hahaha don’t ask me what that is. I mean you can ask me what it is but I can’t guarantee you that I will be right, though it seems obvious to me. It’s a time machine.

Congradulations! I am not suprised to hear that there will be more copies in print. I just bought this book a few weeks ago and finished it within days. I found it to be hysterical! Even though I do not have a Korean background myself, I was able to relate so much of what happened to my own family expierences. Wonderful job. I’m looking forward to reading any more books you publish!

  2. Doretta:

    Congratulations on the printing!

I totes found errors, but now I’m in Vancouver and your book is in New York and why am I even telling you this?

  3. HK:

    Congratulations on the printing!

My husband who works at BU told me about the reading, but we couldn’t make it because we were at the crazy red sox game. To be honest, I thought to myself, “Why should I buy a book about a Korean American girl growing up in the SF valley with crazy parents when I lived through it already?” But yesterday, while I was killing time at the Brookline Booksmith, I came across your book. I picked it up and perused the pages a bit and came across the part about El Torito, Black Angus and Sizzler near the mall and busted out laughing really loudly, because I know where that is! My husband, who grew up as a KA in RI clearly did not understand why I was gripped in painful and violent body shaking laughter. He made me buy the book. I think he’s afraid that should we go to another bookstore, I will cause another commotion reading your book. (He’s also opposed to me reading the book in the store. I think he calls it “stealing”, I call it sampling.) I’m going to read it on the plane on my way to l.a. this weekend.

Annie, it’s so wonderful news about your book! Particularly since I live in VT and B&N is probably the only place where I could get fiction by a person of color! Go go gadget diversity! I thought of stealing a copy I found one of my coworkers reading but I fucked it up by making it a big deal about the book. Once I read the title I knew I need to read the book. That bastard is all into the book now and I’ll have to wait until he finishes or until B&N gets more copies.

Anyway, I’m so excited for you and I can’t wait to read your book. I am a brown skinned valley girl (though not Asian) and I never really see stories about that.

Your book, just from the title and the cover is exactly the book I’ve been waiting for! Yay.

  5. annie:

Thanks Holli! Thanks for reading it! I’m not sure if they’ll let me write another one, but hopefully they will.

    Hey HK-

Brookline Booksmith is totally awesome, I love that bookstore. Sadly I couldn’t read there, but that’s OK. Do you remember when Black Angus used to be Velvet Turtle? That was awesome. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy it!

  7. annie:

    Angiekins-

The book is nonfiction, not fiction, but either way I hope you like it. I think Vermont would be a swell place to live if I weren’t allergic to everything. Hope you like the book.

  8. HK:

Yes, I do remember the Velvet Turtle! That was where my highschool boyfriend took me on our first date with his cousin/my friend driving us because he didn’t have his license yet. It’s where I had my very first lobster tail!

  9. Kristine the Spleen:

That picture looks like a porter-potty from the future…woah!

  10. Malini:

  11. Luna:

Annie, congrats for these 7,500 new copies!
I finished reading your book yesterday night before sleeping, I really liked it a lot!!… even reviewed it on a “reading social” place on the web: “Made me laugh, get a bit upset, laugh again. It’s full of turns but surprisingly has a very cute ending”.
I think I’ll write to you one of these days during the week, but for now I only leave a happy note to you. :)
    Have a nice week!
