Better than Joan Didion

At Barnes and Noble in Chelsea, I am on the shelf above Joan Didion, therefore, I am better than Joan Didion. I’m so glad everyone agrees with that.

This week’s Entertainment Weekly ran a review of my book - under the “New in Chick Lit” section. I don’t really feel that my book is chick lit at all, but that is where they put it. I got a B, which is a little disappointing because I am Asian and I really like getting A’s. I don’t know whether or not to tell my mother about the B because she’ll probably be like “B???? You not study hard enough!” But check this, A.M. Homes also got a B, so I’m at least as good as A.M. Homes. Not that this is a competition or anything, but JOAN AND A.M. IN YOUR FACE, NATCH!

I will try to scan both the EW review and the Korea Daily profile so you can peep it and be knowledgeable in all things Annie. See? I work hard to keep the troops informed.

what did you study at cal?
    and when did you graduate?

Hey, I’m Hallie, your accountant’s daughter, the one who wants to be a writer. We got your email about the reading dates but obviously could not make it to tonight’s - my dad is overloaded with work right now and I’m not allowed to go into the city by myself at night, let alone a school night. But since you mentioned your blog in the email, I figured I’d check it out for myself. Congrats on one-upping Joan Didion! Even some of the greatest writers can’t accomplish that, especially if their last names start with the letters E thru Z. It really seems like you have a great sense of humor and a strong voice, so I will look forward to reading your book. I would add you as a friend on myspace, but I unfortunately never caught on to that trend. Maybe I’ll get one one day when I’m older and not afraid of pedophiles. Anyhow, I’ll try and keep in touch - would you like to read some of the things that I’ve written? You may find some of them amusing.

Hey Hallie! Yes! I would love to read your work, you can email me at annie at annietown dot com. I have other readings (check out the link that says, uh, Readings) and I think there’s one on a Sunday later this month that you and your dad can come to. And yes, I like totally kicked Didion in the ass! IN YOUR FACE JOAN.

Kylie: I graduated in 98, a while back, and I studied psychology because I didn’t really know what I wanted to do (still don’t). The writing thing is relatively new to me and when people ask me what I do I really hate saying I’m a writer cuz it sounds like I’m unemployed.
